What is HR?

HR also commonly known as Human Resources, Personnel, Staff Management, Employment Law, People Management.; Human resources is the backbone of any business. It deals with the most important resource in the business – people.

HR enables organisations to:

•    build their people strategy
•    provides the framework of policies and procedures rated to the employment of staff
•    provides tools to do this effectively
•    provides guidance, support and advice on the effective implementation of the strategy, policies, procedures and tools
•    provides advice on employment law

In our experience organisations are often unclear why they have an HR function (or why they should have it) and most people accept that they don’t know much about HR.  In small businesses, the PA, the Office Manager, Financial Controller or Owner often take on this role on top of their every day responsibilities. For such an important function to the business it is often given little attention until a situation occurs and it receives a reactive response.
